Education News: Higher Ed, Student Safety, Loans & Campus Stories

Education news matters because it affects students, families, and communities across Africa and beyond. You want the facts fast: funding, campus safety, international programs, and practical projects that change classrooms. Here you’ll find clear coverage of what’s happening at universities and schools, with quick takeaways you can use.

Start with money

Nigeria’s student loan probe shows why tracking funds matters. The ICPC says only ₦28.8 billion reached students out of a ₦100 billion allocation. That’s a big shortfall. We explain what the probe looks at, which institutions face scrutiny, and what students should watch for if they rely on these loans.

Campus safety

When kidnappings happen, every university has to act fast. Kogi State’s Confluence University declared a three-day mourning after two first-year students were killed following an abduction. We cover how universities respond, how families find support, and what measures campuses can take to reduce risks.

On a brighter note, universities keep building global links. UTM’s Erasmus+ event in Kuala Lumpur brought leaders from 29 universities to share project tips and grant know-how. If your school is chasing international collaboration or Erasmus+ funding, we break down useful steps to prepare a strong proposal and build lasting partnerships.

Culture and community come through in small projects too. Southern Oregon University’s junk-to-art program turns waste into student work that sparks local interest and teaches sustainability. These hands-on projects show how colleges can teach real skills while helping the planet.

College ceremonies and recognition matter for morale. Duke University’s Veterans Day event reminded students and staff why campus rituals strengthen bonds and honor service. Small events like this keep university communities connected and show how campuses support diverse groups.

What you can do right now: check financial aid statements closely, ask your school for transparent disbursement records, join campus safety groups, and look for sustainability initiatives you can join. If you’re applying for international grants, start building partner contacts and a clear project plan early.

If you’re a student or staff member with a tip, collect basic facts: dates, names, documents, and any official statements. Don’t share sensitive personal details. Send a clear note to our newsroom with attachments and we’ll treat tips confidentially. Want to research grants? Start by checking official Erasmus+ calls and your university international office. They often post deadlines and eligibility rules, so you won’t waste time.

Join student groups that focus on safety, aid, or sustainability. Small teams can run audits on funding flows or create campus maps for safer routes. If you teach or run a program, share outcomes and budgets publicly to build trust. We publish practical guides and templates—check our education section for downloadable resources and contact info if you need help drafting a funding request today.
