Military Veterans: News, Benefits & Support
Are you a military veteran, a family member, or someone who cares about veterans' issues in Africa? This tag gathers news, practical tips, and resources that matter. You’ll find updates on policy, legal fights, benefits, health care, job opportunities, and local veteran groups across the continent.
What you’ll find here
We cover real stories that affect veterans: changes in veteran benefits, court cases, security and safety concerns, and community responses. Expect short news briefs and deeper pieces that explain how a decision affects you on the ground. When a government tweaks pension rules or a new support program starts, we’ll report what happened and what steps veterans should take next.
Where to get benefits and how to apply
Start by checking your country’s defence or veterans affairs website for eligibility rules and application forms. If online access is limited, visit the nearest military records office or municipal office that handles pensions. Keep these documents ready: service record, ID, proof of residence, and any medical reports. If forms are rejected, ask for a written reason and appeal quickly — many programs have tight deadlines.
Non-government groups can help. Look for local veterans’ associations, NGOs that work with ex-service members, and legal aid clinics. They often help with paperwork, appeals, and navigating medical claims. If travel or internet access is an issue, community centres or unions sometimes offer support days dedicated to veterans.
Mental and physical health matters. If you’re struggling with injury, pain, or stress, contact local clinics or hospitals and ask about veteran discounts or special programs. Many countries offer priority medical access for former service members. If you need mental health help, reach out to community health workers, NGOs, or trusted healthcare providers. If you don’t know where to start, ask a veterans’ group for a local referral.
Looking for work? Translate military skills into civilian terms on your CV. Leadership, logistics, security, maintenance, and training all map to common job needs. Try these routes: government hiring schemes, security firms, transport and logistics companies, NGOs, and farming cooperatives. Short training courses in IT, welding, driving, or project management can boost your chances fast.

If you have a tip or a local program that helped you, send it our way — your story can help other veterans find support.
If you need immediate help finding services, try contacting your local veterans’ association or community leaders. For persistent problems with benefits or the law, consider legal aid or a human rights group. We're here to share news, explain next steps, and point you to real help.
